There is a bit of confusion now that so many people are heading back to school or want to go back to school. Paying for your education is VERY difficult with tuitions being so high in 2010 and many women are looking for grants. There are lots of ads on the Internet saying that you can return to school with a grant. Specifically, women are going online looking for:

grants for single Moms
Obama grants for single Moms
grants for single mothers
Obama grants for single mothers
grants for mothers
Obama grants for mothers
grants for Moms
Obama grants for moms
Grants for over 40

Well, you get the idea. Many women are going online hoping to find school grants that are SPECIFICALLY for mothers and single mothers. These women probably know there are school grants for students but they are hoping to find grants that are just for moms or single moms that they might qualify for or ones that might even be easier to qualify for than normal student grants.

The truth is that there are no school grants for single moms or mothers. There just aren’t any that are targeted for those two specific groups.

Why do so many women hope to find such grants that are meant just for them? Again, it is probably because of the speech Barack Obama made last year about his desire for moms to return to school and get their degrees. Whenever a speech like that is made, some people assume things about the speech and interpret it to mean that he is setting up some special Obama school grants just for single moms and women.

After awhile, word spreads and people hear it from other people and so on. Additionally, advertisers for school loans and grants pick up on this and phrase their ads using words that make it sound like grants for single mothers really do exist. They do this to try to get more business.

In the end we have a situation like we have now: women going online everyday searching for Obama grants for single mothers or Obama grants for mothers and nothing like that even exists! There are still the regular Pell grants that women and anyone else can get but nothing just for Moms. As always, if for some reason I am wrong about this please leave a comment and let me know.

To protect consumers, the FTC has just come out with some new rules that will be put into effect on October 27, 2010. The FTC believes that some debt relief companies are a bit less than honest when they charge people up front for services and promises that they might not be able to deliver on. This new ruling will be there to protect people from those advance fees and false promises.

Although there is nothing officially called “Obama debt relief”, the FTC is trying to help the many people who are already deep in debt and looking for debt reduction, debt counseling, and debt consolidation. These are the people that already have nothing and some companies are trying to lure them in with promises of being able to reduce much of their credit card debt and then not delivering on that promise. However, if you have already paid, it is near impossible to get your money back.

The new ruling will not allow any upfront fees or payments and you can only be charged AFTER they have successfully provided their service to you. These rules apply to for-profit debt relief companies and not to ones that are non profit and you can read about it here: FTC ruling.

People are in all sorts of financial trouble right now with credit card debt, foreclosures, loss of jobs, school debt, and little hope for the immediate future. They are looking for Obama stimulus grants, Obama back to school grants, and any other kind of Obama grants they can find.

At least now they won’t have to worry about being taken to the cleaners by any company that makes debt relief promises that seem too good to be true.

It is now the middle of summer and the country still finds itself mired in all sorts of difficulties. Jobs creation is low and unemployment remains in the 9% to 10% range. People still have debt issues to deal with as they search for the Obama debt relief programs they have heard about. It seems there is no way out for many as the economy continues to worsen.

School will soon be starting and now is the time to be researching student loans and grants. While the Obama student loans bill passed earlier this year, will it change anything for 2010? I have tried to find information about specific changes and it is very hard to find anything current for 2010. The best place to go is here at this government direct loans site.

With the new bill, the banks have been cut out of the loan process and all student loans will be given direct loans by the government. The way it used to be was that all students would get their loans from private banks. These banks would handle all the maintenance for the loans and be subsidised by the US government. All your correspondence and dealings was with the bank you chose and you did not have the hassle of interacting with any government agency.

But things have now changed with the Obama student loans bill being passed earlier this year.

We all know how difficult it is to deal with any government agency and that is what is now going to happen with the Obama direct student loans program. All your questions and correspondence is going to have to go through one of the Department of Education’s call centers or processing divisions. The direct loan program is going to be responsible for all student loans for all students no matter where they live or where they want to go to school. Only time will tell if this is a good thing.

If you have a current student loan there will undoubtedly be a transition period and process you have to go through as the government takes over responsibility for all the loans. As this is all new, no one knows how many wrinkles there will be with the new system and how many problems will crop up. Hopefully it won’t be too bad and the money that is supposed to be saved with this new system will go toward Pell grants and Obama school grants.

So much has been written about Obama’s grants for Moms and back to school grants for women. It seems that single Moms and women are always the focus on going back to school and completing their educations.

But what about men? There are lots of men that are also in the same situation as women and they want to go back to school to get their degrees as well. Now that jobs are so hard to find, if they can’t get a good job, maybe it is the right time for men to also try to return to college and finish their degree.

Obama school grants pretty much is about Pell grants and not much more. As I have spoken about before, there are no special school grants, education grants, or college grants that President Obama has started. Pell grants have gone up a bit so you get a bit more in 2010 than you did in 2009 but that is about it.

Scholarships 4 Dads - you can win a $10,000 scholarship and it is 100% free to enter. There is a drawing each month and Scholarships 4 Dads is BBB accredited. A very simple sign up will get you entered and you can also find information on schools there too.

If you are a mom, there is a drawing for you too. Scholarships 4 Moms is also totally free to enter and there is also a drawing every month. It is also BBB accredited and very easy to enter for your chance to get a free $10,000 education grant scholarship.

It is important to get your college degree if you can and that holds true for both moms and dads, men and women, and single moms and single dads too. An education is something you can always use to help you get a better job and so now might be the right time for you to start looking.

You should know that advertisers are not allowed to use President Obama’s name or likeness in any of their ads. There are many spammy emails that come to my mailbox that are trying to get you to click on the Obama grants link and it will take you to some online grant application website. Surfing the Internet will also occasionally uncover some sort of advertisement that either directly or indirectly hints that you can benefit from Obama’s stimulus grant program and they can show you how.

The FTC had to come in and stop a whole lot of these ads a year ago that were feeding off of the popularity of the new President and making it sound as though there were special grant programs and they could help you get free money. These ads were showing a picture of the President and using his name aggressively in their ads. People who didn’t understand that the grant programs are free to apply for were then being taken to websites that would charge monthly fees for their services.

There are many things today’s advertisers are targeting and they include aid packages that people think they can get from President Obama. They include things like:

Obama Pell grants
Obama scholarships
Obama college grants
Obama business grants
Obama education grants
Obama health grants
Obama school grants
Obama small business grants
Obama grants for Moms
Obama scholarships for Moms
Obama college grants for Moms
Obama single Mom grants
Obama school grants for Moms
Obama back to school grants
Obama back to school grants for Moms

While some of these are legitimate grant programs, in reality there is nothing here that wasn’t available from past presidents. These are all standard government grants that have nothing to do specifically with President Obama. Advertising with his name or hinting that he is somehow responsible and they are bigger and more easily available because of him is misleading.

You should also always read the terms and conditions before you sign up for anything and this is especially important if you are giving your credit card number out. The government grant process is confusing to many and there are some legitimate grant companies that will help you with the process. But you should do some research on the company first by doing an online Google search (for instance type in “scam” or “reviews” and then the company name) to see what people are saying about the service before you give your credit card out.

I have to admit, I am really confused. With any president there is hype. Some of it is generated from within the administration and some from the media. It just goes with the territory.

This last year I have heard alot of talk about President Obama and how he is committed to education. I have of course heard about the Obama student loans bill that passed and will take the loan process out of the private sector. I have heard about Obama Pell grants and I get emails all the time about Obama college grants and where to go to get them. I have also heard about the Obama moms back to school grants and other such things. All together, I have heard a lot of hype about this president and his desire for us as a country to be better educated.

Where have I heard about all these things? I have heard about them on television, on radio, in newspapers, in magazines, in advertisements on the Internet, in my email box, and by word of mouth. With all this publicity, I had assumed that he had at least initiated something new for students or substantially increased the aid available to them.

An that is why I am confused. After looking into government Pell grants here at the ED.gov website, it seems that there really isn’t much new to talk about. The maximum amount you can get for an “Obama Pell grant” in the 2010-11 year has been raised from $5,350 to $5,550. That it? A $200 increase is all they have gone up? Does that even come close to keeping up with the amount tuition’s have gone up in a year?

From what I can tell, there is no new special Obama education grant of any kind and there is nothing set aside just for Moms, single parents, or women. Returning to school is admirable but all you will get this year is an additional $200 over last year and that is only if you are able to qualify for the whole amount.

If I am wrong about this please leave a comment and let me know. Point me in the right direction where I can find out more. It’s just that with all the hype, I had expected more.

The Obama student loans reform of 2010 will be signed into law today and with it will come more government control of our lives. The bill is designed to take out the private sector from the student loan process with the assumption that the U.S. government can loan the money out to students and give them better rates.

This bill was part of the Obama health care bill but it had to be voted on separately which is why it was delayed until today. This is a complete revamping of the student loans and grants process just like the health care system is going to see big changes made. But, just like health care, none of this kicks in until 2014 when Obama may not even be President anymore!

There are some good things for students like the expansion of Pell grants and this new law makes it easier to repay loans and says that you can’t be required to pay more than 10% of your income. Also the hope is that the interest rates charged will be lower but right now that just a hope. The big question seems to be this: how is this new Obama student loans plan going to affect our children’s ability to get loans?

With the cost of college and university so high right now, most students need to get some sort of a loan or grant to be able to go. In the past, they could get loans from banks or other private lending institutions but starting July 1st in 2014, everything will have to go through a government channel. Does this mean that some government bureaucrat in Washington is going to be deciding who goes and who doesn’t go to college? Are there going to be quotas and some kids won’t get loans based on the color of their skin or their parents income?

Do we really want the Department of Education controlling which of our children get loans and are able to go to college? Is this new Obama student loans reform act really a good thing in the long run? And why do we have to wait until 2014 for it to start? Millions of students will be affected by this new bill but until then everything will be the same with students trying to get stimulus money and Obama school grants so that they have enough money to pay for the high price of getting an education.

I’ve been getting a lot of emails lately with headers that look just like the one above (without the “not”). Usually they are in my spam folder but occasionally one slips through into the real folder. They seem to lead to different online colleges or some other college placement type website.

Is it true that you can really get $10,000 from Obama or an Obama school grant? Or are these emails just more of the same over the top advertising to get your attention and mislead you? I clicked a link that said “financial aid packages” on one of the sites and this is what I got:

I don’t know where they are coming up with the 10K number…perhaps it just sounds good. The numbers above ($5,350 and $2500) don’t even add up to $10,000.

Obama school turnaround grants have been in the news lately but those are grants that are going to be given to the schools that are successful in well, turning themselves around. They are not grants for individual people like moms who want to go back to school.

Advertisers continue to feed off of and use the public’s perception that there are real and new Obama debt relief grants, Obama back to school grants, Obama grants for moms, and any other kind of Obama government stimulus grants that they are now entitled to and can get. The truth is that there is very little out there for the average person that wasn’t there before Obama got elected.

There are new amounts available for Pell Grants but it is not that much more than before and it hardly keeps pace with inflation. Certainly the increase doesn’t match how much college tuition is going up across the country. Anyone can apply for these school grants and may even be lucky enough to get one. But is Obama just giving away $10,000 for anyone to go back to school like these ads want you to believe? Nope, not even close.

The price of a four year college is rapidly climbing beyond the means of normal Americans. Yesterday there were rallies around the country at college campuses by angry students who were protesting the ever rising cost of an education along with more and more cuts. You can read about it here.

The cost of a college degree is simply not worth what it costs today and one can only wonder what it will cost in the future. There are Obama school grants that the President has proposed to the tune of 900 million, most of which would go as an incentive for high schools to get their acts together. In order to get any part of that grant money, schools would have to show that they are making a turn around in many different ways including sometimes firing the current staff. You can read about that story here.

Why is it that even with the help of stimulus money from the federal government, more and more high schools and colleges are having to cut back and increase classroom sizes? Our children are not getting the best education they could be and the price keeps going up! What has happened to our education system? Private colleges can charge what they want but there are hundreds of state schools that the government could lower the cost so that average people can pay.

The Obama stimulus grants that are being given out seem to be going just to big businesses to bail them out. Shouldn’t our education system be getting a shot in the arm as well? Every President seems to act like they are big on education but it keeps on getting worse and worse all the while becoming more expensive at the same time!

No wonder there is great interest for Obama back to school grants for moms and anyone else that can get them. Right now, you have to be rich to go to a good college or you will end up deep in debt. We can’t have all our college graduates be in debt from student loans for the rest of their lives and the Obama student loans proposal will not help very much if it is passed. While lower interest rates for student loans would be nice, what we need desperately right now is lower tuition for everyone!

People may be wondering whether there are any new Obama grants or stimulus money that becomes available in 2010. Everyone is searching for Obama school grants and other things they might get from the government that will help them out financially. Times are tough for a lot of people and they are hoping that Obama and the government can help out.

To my knowledge though, there are no new Obama stimulus grants programs for individuals that kick in during 2010. Nothing has changed since 2009 and it remains very hard for individual people to get any kind of special financial aid from the government. Right now there is a lot of chaos in Washington as so much emphasis was made on health care reform and now it looks like that is on hold. Ever since the election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts, emphasis has shifted away from ObamaCare.

In his State of the Union speech, President Obama said he was going to concentrate on jobs as that is where the most need is. Of course he is right that there is a jobs crisis in this country but what can the government really do? Raising taxes on everyone who earns more than $250,000 means that taxes are being raised on most small businesses. Doesn’t Mr. Obama understand that small businesses is where many of the jobs come from and that raising taxes on those businesses will mean more people have to be laid off?

You still have to be careful in 2010 when you are searching for debt relief grants and any other information relating to back to school grants for moms and other things associated with Obama and the stimulus bill. If you have questions about grants you should go to Grants.gov as that is the official government website. Likewise if you are interested in the stimulus recovery you should go to the official website Recovery.gov. It should be known though, that those two websites might be hard to understand and navigate for the average citizen looking for any stimulus grants help.

2010 looks like it is going to be a rough year financially for many people in the United States just like 2009 was. Whether President Obama’s programs and policies will lead to more jobs and a better America has yet to be determined. Right now though, all you can do is be thrifty with your money and hope for the best.
