There is a lot of debate about taxes: how high they should be, who should be paying, and what is a person’s fair share? That word “fair” is used a lot around the campaign trails and it means something different to every single person.

The fact is though, that about one half of the people in the United States don’t pay anything at all!

That means 1 out of every 2 people get government benefits but pay zero in taxes. That is incredible and I don’t think any Republican or Democrat can really say that is “fair”. We all use the same streets, drink the same water, have the same police force to protect us, use the same court system and on and on. It seems that a system where 50% of the people don’t pay anything in taxes is something that can’t be sustained and surely isn’t fair.

This shows there is still a lot of work to that needs to be done by President Obama so that people can be lifted out of poverty and make enough to HAVE to pay taxes. Paying taxes, on some level, is a good thing because it means you are participating in society and making enough to contribute. If you pay taxes it means you have a vested interest in what is going on around you. It means you are holding your own and we have to get more people on their feet so that they can fend for themselves.

Government grants, loans, food stamps, and all other benefits are needed but most people would rather be in a position there they don’t need them. That means making enough money on their own to put them in an economic bracket where they are required to pay taxes.

We can discuss all day whether taxes are good or bad and how much people should pay. That type of discussion will be around till the end of time. However, what we all should agree on is that lifting people out of poverty is good and getting them to the point where they are making enough to have to pay taxes will be beneficial to us all.

The Obama tax package has passed both the House and the Senate and is on it’s way to be signed by the President. This means another extension of benefits (13 months) for the long term unemployed up to 99 weeks depending on where you live.

Much has been been written about this tax package and it is being labeled as the Obama Tax Cuts and the Obama Tax Cut Plan but in reality, taxes are staying the same as they have been for the last 8 years. Taxes are not going down and they are not being cut: they are staying the same so President Obama cannot be blamed for or given credit for cutting taxes.

People out of work that need unemployment benefits because they can’t find a job (long term unemployed) have to be happy about this further extension of benefits. It gives them some breathing room and hope that they can find a job before time runs out again. You can read more about the Obama bipartisan tax package here.

The tax deal will last 2 years and so it will probably be a big part of the Presidential election in 2012 as both sides (Democrats and Republicans) will be arguing about it all over again. It’s too bad that our politician’s best skills seem to be the ability to disagree and argue with one another.

If you are out of a job, completing your education or getting one in the first place is your best option. It is clear that the more educated you are, the better your chances are of getting jobs throughout your life. An article that can be read here talks about how well educated people are doing well in this economy and are spending a lot for Christmas. Less educated people as a group are not doing as well and are having to cut back this Christmas shopping season.

Education is clearly important if you want to get ahead in our society and be able to afford the things you want and need. Take advantage of any state school programs you can get into to further your education. While there might not be any specific Obama school grants other than Pell grants, the younger you are the more you should be thinking about completing high school and getting a college degree. That is the best way to avoid having a job called “long term unemployed”!

For the longest time, candidate Obama promised that taxes would NOT be raised on the middle class. There would be NO Obama middle class tax hikes he told us. And the country believed him and voted for him.

Of course, who and what constitutes the middle class was never clearly defined and he and Joe Biden kept saying different things in regards to this. Sometimes it was no taxes for anyone below $250,000 and other time the number would be $220,000. I’m sure it was other numbers too as the campaign wound down and the campaign traveled to different states.

In this day and age, any voter who trusts any politician to keep his or her word is a fool. Period. And boy are there a lot of fools that trusted Obama as he possibly goes back on his word. Now that everybody is trying to figure out how to get free Obama money and take advantage of the Obama grants they erroneously thought were going to be available, comes word of the possibility of new taxes on the middle class. That’s right, Obama higher taxes for the middle class that he said he would NEVER do!

There is no free government money that comes from some secret vault….it all comes from us, the taxpayers. And when Obama and the Democrats run out they are going to come to us to get more of our money so they can keep redistributing it.

This is why so many people distrust the government and politicians. They take our money and give it away to others that haven’t earned it. If you have nothing, then you don’t care and just want to get your hands on some of that Obama free money. But if you are a taxpayer, you should pay attention to what Obama says and when he and his ilk lie, you should get upset. You have gotten upset and voiced your concerns about the Obama health care that he is trying to ramrod down your throats and you should get upset about the higher Obama taxes on the middle class too!
